Tell us at corrections@washingtonindependents.org. You do not need to prove anything, quote a policy, or be the person affected. “This looks wrong” is enough to start.

Where a page rests on a record match and you tell us it is the wrong person, we unpublish the section while we check. We do not leave it up pending review. The check happens with the claim down, because the cost of a wrong attribution falls entirely on the person named.

• The page address, so we look at the right one.
• Which figure or sentence is wrong — pages carry several sources.
• What the correct version is, if you know it.
• Anything showing it: a filing, a certified result, an official page. We will go and check the state record ourselves either way.

We acknowledge that we received it. A report that vanishes is the same as no process at all.

We go back to the primary source — the filing, the roll call, the certified result — not to our own copy of it. Most errors here will be ingestion or matching errors, and our copy will reproduce them faithfully.

If it is wrong, we fix it and say so. The page carries a note of what changed and when. Corrections are not made silently; a record that quietly rewrites itself is not a record.

If the source itself is wrong, we say that instead. We do not have the standing to overrule a state filing, but we can show the disagreement, which is often the more useful thing.

If we conclude it is right, we tell you why, and name the source, so you can take it further.

Contested record matches come down on receipt — before we have formed any view — because they are the class of error most likely to attribute one person’s money or votes to another.

Everything else is checked against the source, and we come back to you with what we found rather than leaving it open.
