What is already decided
221 contests have one name on the ballot. Each is decided before a vote is cast, and each is listed here rather than folded into a rate: a specific seat can be looked up, a rate cannot. Alphabetical by county, then contest.

The money
Candidates in these contests have reported $27,991,756 in contributions. The ten contests with the most reported money, largest first, and then every other contest as one row — grouped, not omitted. A bar is the same figure as the number beside it.

Money nobody in the race controls
Independent expenditures and electioneering communications — money spent about these candidates by committees that are barred by law from coordinating with them. Spending for a candidate is not money from the candidate, and spending for and against are two different facts. They are never added together here.

What this page will not compute
An election page is where a forecast is expected, which makes it the page where the temptation to compute one is real. Each of these would make the page more useful and less true.
- No projection.
- A primary share is a fact about August. Carrying it forward to November is a model, and the model’s error is nowhere in the record. We publish the certified result and stop.
- No “competitive” label.
- Calling a race close or safe is a prediction wearing an adjective. The primary margins are printed on every race page; the reader can apply their own word.
- No per-candidate ranking.
- Candidates are listed in the certified order of the primary and nowhere else. No score, no grade, no “frontrunner”.
- No net money.
- Spending for and spending against a candidate are two facts. Subtracting one from the other manufactures a third that nobody reported, and erases whichever side was smaller.
- No location.
- We do not detect where you are and never will. The contests are grouped by county so a reader can find their own; the page does not do it for them.
- No race calls.
- After the election, returns appear on each race page as the counties release them, with the count’s own timestamp. The only “decided” state is the certifying authority’s.

Common questions
- How many races are on Washington’s 2026 general election ballot?
- 472 candidate contests, counted from the certified August 4, 2026 primary: 10 federal, 122 legislature, 66 judicial, 274 county & local. Ballot measures are not counted here; they have their own pages.
- How many 2026 races are already decided?
- 221 contests have one name on the general ballot. 57 of those held no primary at all: Washington skips the primary for a nonpartisan office with two or fewer candidates (RCW 29A.36.171). The rest sent a single name through the primary because nobody else filed.
- Where do these results come from?
- The Washington Secretary of State’s certified primary results, statewide and county files, certified August 21, 2026. We publish the certified canvass, not election-night returns.
- When will November 3, 2026 general election results appear here?
- On election night, each race page carries returns as the counties release them, with the count’s own timestamp and the share of reporting units counted. We publish returns; we do not call races. The certified result replaces them when the state certifies.
- Why does a candidate show no money?
- Because no PDC report matched them on the key we join on (ballot name + office family + district number), or because the office reports elsewhere — federal candidates file with the Federal Election Commission, which this site does not hold. An unmatched candidate shows no figure rather than someone else’s.

Where this page comes from
Every figure above is read from a primary source and rebuilt on a schedule. Nothing here is modelled or inferred; where a source is silent the page says so rather than filling the gap.
- Population
- every candidate contest in the Secretary of State’s certified August 4, 2026 primary files, statewide and county, plus the judicial contests that held no primary, reconstructed from PDC candidate filings (nonpartisan office, two or fewer filers). Precinct committee officer contests are party elections and are excluded; ballot measures are on their own pages.
- One contest, once
- a contest in the statewide file is counted from that file alone. County files contribute only contests the statewide file lacks; a county’s copy of a multi-county contest is a partial count and is never merged into the totals.
- Top two
- the two candidates with the most certified primary votes advance, whatever their party preference. A contest with one named candidate is unopposed in the general. Write-in lines are not candidates.
- Money
- PDC C-3 contributions to candidate committees for this cycle, joined to a ballot name on ballot name + office family + district number. A name that matches two filers is refused and shows no figure. The unmatched count is printed above.
- Outside money
- PDC C-6 independent expenditures and electioneering communications naming a candidate, split by the stance the spender filed. For and against are never netted. A report with no stance is in neither figure.
- Returns
- on election night the race pages carry the counties’ released returns with the snapshot’s own timestamp. We publish returns; we do not call races. The certified canvass replaces them.
